Harden - Norman

Angelika Harden-Norman has been an artist for more than 30 years, but this year is the first time

she's decided to participate in any shows. The Browning woman and her artist husband own

Lodgepole Gallery and Tipi Village in Browning, but most of her work has been done behind the

scenes — running the gallery and marketing the artwork displayed there. Until now.

Harden-Norman's work was recognized with two awards at the Western Heritage Artists show at the

Holiday Inn: first place in photography and the Bev Tietjan Memorial Award for best new artist for her

mixed-media piece called "Gift of the Sun," which depicts a photograph of a tepee with other photos

and images laid into it."I'm really excited," she said. "I can't believe I won the awards."

Because she lives in the heart of Blackfeet country, Harden-Norman said she's influenced by Native

American art. Though she's criticized by some for using her computer to enhance her art, Harden-

Norman said she likes the new creativity tools it offers. She can scan images of a painting her

husband did on rawhide and a photo of a tepee to make one piece of art with multiple layers.

"My art is not the typical Western art," she said. "It is modern media."

Harden-Norman can be found in room 227 at Holiday Inn.
