Western Heritage Art Show,
Great Falls from March 16 to 20, 2011
Great Falls’ Western Art Week has always been an event we look forward to. Meeting artists friends as well as long time customers and exchanging news is something Darrell and I have been enjoying.
This year I participated for the first time as an artist myself at the Western Heritage Art Show. The show opened on Wednesday night started with a surprise. I won two awards for “Gift of the Sun” (photo: top middle right) . The first for best photography and the second for being the best new artist of the show.
Although the Great Falls Tribune wrote an article about my success at the show, I sold only a few prints, cards and bookmarks. Is this an art show beginner’s destiny or result of a still sluggish economy, I asked myself. However, this was a learning experience, and I have already been thinking about next years Western Art Week. Photo right: Great Falls Tribune
One event during the Western Heritage Art Show I enjoyed watching was the “Paint Around”. About 15 artists painted in turns on the same art piece. All art work got sold in an auction at the end of the event.

After the Native American Art Show got canceled, Darrell as well as Monte Yellow Bird, Valentina LaPier, Terrance Guardipee and Lyle Omeasoo decided to take part in the Jay Contway Show. The Contways gave Native artist a chance to exhibit their art during the Western Art Week.
